By Emma Marais, RHUMC Director of Youth Ministries

This past month, the Hi-5 Program started in full force. In this program, each student in the Youth Group is paired with 5 mentors. The mentors will read monthly updates from their mentees, say hi (or give a Hi-5!) at church, and just take time to get to know them. Research shows that young people who feel connected to at least 5 adults at church (outside of their family) are more likely to continue pursuing their faith as adults. Pastor Robert and I have been talking about this program since the very first time we met. His passion for connecting our young people with the greater congrega-tion was inspiring. I put off starting this project for a few months to do some research as well as to get to know the youth and the congregation. As I talked to the adults of the church, many made it clear that they were interested in getting to know the youth but were not sure how. I started this program with the goal of 5 to 10 mentors. There are 30 people who signed up to be Hi-5 Mentors. WOW! What a blessing. I am so thankful to all of the adults who stepped up to be mentors. I cannot wait to see what happens as the youth get to know their mentors and vice versa. Please join me in prayer for all involved in the program. Great things happen when we all come together
